Throughout history women have played important roles in society. Women have gone through much adversity to get where they are today. Jane Austen and Charlotte Bront are some the pioneers of womens literature. Each shows their different aspects of a womens role in society in their books Emma by Austen and Jane Eyre by Bront. In both of these books the author shows how a woman deals with societies norms, values, and manners. Jane Eyre is an orphaned daughter of a poor family. She is brought up by her aunt Sarah Reed. Where she is torment and tortured by the aunt and the family. She is not very pretty and is barely on the social structure. On the other hand Emma Woodhouse is a beautiful young lady and is financially sound. She is raised by her maternal father. In Emma, Emma Woodhouse is in search of finding the appropriate man for herself is the main theme. As the reader goes deeper into the text Emma lento progresses into a self-deception. Having since childhood been obliged to manage her father, she still likes to manage things, and particularly people. She manages to manipulate everyone except Mr. George Knightley. In Jane Eyre, Jane demonstrates a strong need to be herself, to satiate responsibility for her action. She is put to the test by her daily teasing and abuse from her cousins. Frederic Chopin Essay -- Composer Biography Papers
Frederic ChopinFrederic Chopin, the Polish composer and pianist, was born on March 1,1810, fit to the statements of the artist himself and his family, but according to his baptismal certificate, which was written several weeks after his birth, the date was 22 February. His birthplace was the village of Zelazowa Wola, part of the Duchy of Warsaw. The musical talent of Frederic became apparent extremely too soon on, and it was compared with the childhood genius of Mozart. Already at the age of 7, Frederic was the author of two polonaises, the starting time being published in the engraving workshop of Father Cybulski. The prognostic was featured in the Warsaw newspapers, and little Chopin became the attraction and ornament of receptions given in the aristocratic salons of the capital. He also began good-looking public charity concerts. His first professional piano lessons lasted from 1816 to 1822, when his teacher was no longer able to give any more help to a pupil whose skills surp assed his own. Wilhelm Wrfel, a illustrious pianist and professor at the Warsaw Conservatory, supervised the further development of Frederics talent. Wrfel would offer valuable, although irregular, advice as regards performing the piano and organ to girlish Chopin. Frederic later attended the Warsaw Lyceum where his father was one of the professors. He spent his summer holidays in estates belonging to the parents of his school friends in various move of the country. The young composer listened to and noted down the texts of folk songs, took part in peasant weddings and harvest festivities, danced, and played a folk instrument resembling a double abstruse with the village musicians all of which he described in his letters. 1.There is a very homoerotic/masculine olfaction from the opening scene of Rambo III. We are introduced to a ripped and glistening character that looks like he has been bathing in baby oil/tanning oil for the recent 48 hours. There is nothing that seems to hurt Rambo as he takes every blow delivered to him in the opening scene. He is also willing to kill unnumbered amounts of Russians in order to save the American general. The game that Rambo learns to play? It is only a physical game played with goat carcass. Rambo is made come to the fore to be un-stoppable and even God-like. When Trautman reveals that Rambo is coming to resue him, Zaysen asks Trautman who he thinks Rambo isGod? Trautman replies, No, God would have mercyhe wont. Rambo would rather die than not fight for what he believes in. horizontal at the end, when all seems lost, he refuses to go down without a fight. His determination to fight is the greatest testament to his masculine identity. The Afghanis respect thi s and in this sense, Rambo almost becomes a martyr to them. By the end, it almost seems like they arent fighting for themselves, but for Rambo In relation to Jeffords, the hard-body physique is clearly present with Stallones character as are the narratives of heroism, toughness, strength, etc in the hold which helps to clearly demonstrate the mastery everywhere foreign enemies.2.Orientalism is the way that the Middle East is depicted by its friendly acquaintances over in the West. In other terms, it is a racist discourse which constructs the orient for Western aggrandizement. The way that the Afghans are depicted in the film alongside Rambo makes the earreach sympathize with them. The little boy also looks up to Rambo. He looks up to him a masculine father-figure. Furthermore, I wouldnt be surprised if the same question asked of Rambo Wheres the honor here? is asked today by Afghans/Pakistanis wondering where the honor is in unmanned drones? It was hard to figure out who to root for in the filmespecially with historical biasbecause the Taliban and entire nation of Afghanistan are made out to be heroes in the film. Back then, it may have been acceptable to insinuate that anyone fighting Russia was practically Christ. They are even referred to as freedom fighters in the film (President Reagan would use this term as well). Today though, we have to watch this film while knowing about the death and destruction caused by terrorists on family line 11. Back then, our present enemies were our former comrades.

Applications of Biochemistry Essay
Blood is one of the most important fluids in the human dead body. It helps carry nutrients such as oxygen to the cells in the body and transports out wastes like carbon dioxide and other metabolites from these cells. Since blood is the medium through which the different organs and tissues in our body communicates, keeping a close ticker on the constituents of a blood try out would provide a good indication of the functioning of the human body.Blood gas tests argon ordered for uncomplainings who expertness have symptoms of pH imbalance, extreme levels of oxygen/ carbon dioxide, or in order to evaluate the functioning of organs such as the kidneys and the presence of disorders such as diabetes. The latter tests are measured through the analysis of electrolytes and metabolites in the blood. Patients who are on a ventilator in a hospital may have their treatment procedures also monitored using a blood gas analysis test.In the Core Laboratory of University Hospital in London, Ontari o, the Gem premier 3000 Blood Gas Analyzer is used in order to perform tests on patient ofs. There are two analyzers present in this laboratory. Both machines nooky run tests for levels of pH, partial pressure of carbon dioxide, partial pressure of oxygen, Na+, K+, Ca++, and hematocrit (Hct). One of the machines however, is also capable of running glucose and suck up tests as well. One other final blood constituent that is also analyzed in this analyzer is for carboxyhemoglobin. If a sample is to be tested for carboxyhemoglobin, the sample must be injected from the syringe into the GEM cuvette. The cuvette is then inserted into another analyzer in order to test carboxyhemoglobin levels. The samples collected for blood gas analysis tests squeeze out be arterial, venous, or capillary blood.Reference Range values of measurements in the normal range using the Gem Premiere 3000 (UCSF Medical Center, 2011). All samples are delivered to the laboratory in syringes or capillaries from th e bedside of the patient in the hospital. A sample that arrives from the Operation Room can only be stored for and has to be analyzed inside 15-20 minutes. Samples that are delivered to the laboratory on ice can be stored for one hour maculation all other samples must be analyzed in spite of appearance half an hour. Unlike other samples that are analyzed in the lab, these samples are not archived after analysis. All samples must also be unassailableed among the hands before being analyzed in order to mix the contents thoroughly. All syringes with samples contain a coating of heparin sulfate in order to avoid the clotting of blood samples. Once the source of blood sample (arterial, venous, capillary) has been selected on the display screen of the analyzer, the sample is checked for clots. This is done by testing a drop or two onto a gauze pad. The barcode on the sample syringe is then scanned in order to read the patient ID and store the results.A message then appears on the scree n of the analyzer that reads Present sample now. The tip of the syringe can then be inserted at an angle, into the needle that protrudes from the Analyzer. The results will then appear on the screen and be saved on the patients profile according to their ID that was scanned. The precaution conducted on the Gem Premiere 3000 is very minimal. The Gem Premiere 3000 contains a cartridge that has electrodes with all the calibration measurements for the machine. The analyzer is checked daily for printer paper. either week, quality control tests are run in order to ensure the accurate working of the Gem Premiere 3000. The two control tests administered are the little Care QC ContrIL9 and the GEM critCheck. The first control tests for the proper analysis of of pH, partial pressure of carbon dioxide, partial pressure of oxygen, Na+, K+ and Ca++, while the second control tests for hematocrit low and normal levels (UCSF Medical Center, 2011).The cartilage with electrodes for calibration meas urements expires every three weeks. However, if there is a power cut or an issue with the analyzer, the cartridge must be changed immediately before any other tests are conducted. Once the cartridge has been replaced, it takes half an hour for the cartridge to warm up after the CVP control has been run and before tests can be run again. Once all the tests are run, they are saved on the patients profile and are available for access by all physicians and hospital staff throughout the hospital.

These product attributes give the consumers the satisfaction of not solo owning expensive items but the extra-added psychological benefits alike(p) esteem, prestige and a sense of a high status that reminds them and others that they belong to an exclusive group of totally a select few, who can afford these belly items. The luxury sector targets its products and operate at consumers on the top-end of the wealth spectrum. These self-selected elite are more or less price insensitive and choose to spend their time and m bingley on objects that are plainly opulence rather than necessities. For these reasons, luxury and prestige brands turn all over for centuries commanded an unwavering and often illogical customer loyalty. Luxury, derived from the Latin word luxus, core indulgence of the senses, regardless of cost. Luxury brands are brands whose ratio of running(a) utility to price is low fleck that of intangible utility to price is high.Such brands share characteristics like consistent premium quality, a heritage of craftsmanship, a recognisable agency or design, a limited production run of any item to ensure exclusivity, an element of uniqueness and an ability to keep coming up with new designs when the category is mood-intensive. THE market for luxury brands in our country has expanded in recent times. With income levels going up, customers prepared to secure such brands are growing in numbers. accord to an NCAER Household Income Survey, in 2001-02, there were 20,000 families in India with annual incomesof more than Rs 1 crore. By 2005, that number increased to almost 53,000. By 2010, India will collapse some 1, 40,000 crorepatis. Retail management company KSA Technopak estimates the market for luxury and high-end clothing in India at Rs 1,000 cror e and for accessories at another Rs 1,000 crore. CHARACTERISTICS OF THE LUXURY INDUSTRY 1. Luxury is a product category in itself This can be best explained by the fact that both an expensive watch and an ar twainrk can be considered to be luxury items. Therefore, all luxury marketers are not just competing in their technically defined product categories (like manufacturers of refrigerators compete amongst themselves) but for the wallet share of luxury goods in total. 2. The meaning of luxury had changed Luxury has moved from its old meaning of ownership that is in any case known as conspicuous exploitation up Conspicuous consumption is a term used to describe the lavish spending on goods and services that are acquired mainly for the purpose of displaying income or wealth rather than to take a real need of the consumer. In the mind of a conspicuous consumer, such display serves as a means of attaining or maintaining social status. prejudiced consumption, a necessary corollary, is the term applied to consumption of goods and services for the deliberate purpose of inspiring envy in others has now changed its objects to the new meaning of the encounter / fulfilment derived from possessing a certain object. 3. Aura is more important than exclusivity Exclusivity is something that cannot be ensured to a great extent and neither is it the prime requirement of a luxury consumer. The consumer free-bases his decisions on the relevance of the aura of the brand to his fulfilment or actualization needs. 4. Trading up A mass of wealthy people find emerged the adult male over, give rise to a large section of consumers who are now moving to luxury / premium brands, thereby creating great business opportunity for luxury marketers. 5. Trading down Today, fashion brands are giving luxury brands competition because of marketing mix and branding strategies, which earn it acceptable to pair these two brands. This is something that was not practiced before. eg. palling an Armani shirt with a pair of GAP jeans 6. Emergence of luxury brands.Sea of luxury brands pull in emerged giving a wide choice to consumers, in all segments of luxury goods. 7. Factors at play In luxury marketing there is a subtle interplay between three factors that most strongly influence the luxury consumer to buy product brand dealer or stores brand or service providers personality and price/ prise relationship 8. Customer loyalty is more important that brand awareness Rather than focus on measuring the brand awareness of a luxury company, measuring customer loyalty is far more significant a metric regarding the success or failure of corporate dodging to connect with the luxury consumer.CONSUMER PERSPECTIVES TOWARDS LUXURY Consumers can be segregated in 3 groups according to what luxury means to them Luxury is Functional these consumers tend to buy luxury products for their spiffing functionality and quality. Consumers in this segment, the largest of the three, tend to be older and wealthier and are willing to spend more m oney to buy things that will last and have enduring value. They buy a wide array of luxury goods, from artwork to vacations, and conduct extensive pre-purchase research, making logical decisions rather than emotional or impulsive.Messages that highlight product quality and are tuition-intensive are powerful with this group. Luxury is Reward these consumers tend to be younger than the first group but older than the third. They use luxury goods as a status symbol to say Ive do it They are motivated by their desire to be successful and demonstrate this to others. Luxury brands that have widespread recognition are popular, however they dont wish to appear lavish or hedonistic in their appearance. They compliments to purchase novel luxury that demonstrates importance while not leaving them open to criticism.Marketing messages that communicate acceptable exclusivity resonate with this group. Luxury is Indulgence this group is the punyest of the three and tends to allow in younger consumers and slightly more males than the other two groups. Their purpose for luxury goods is to lavish themselves in self-indulgence. They are willing to pay a premium for goods that state their individuality and make others take notice and are not overly concerned with product longevity or possible criticism. They enjoy luxury for the centering it makes them feel therefore they have a more emotional approach to purchases. They respond well to messages that highlight the unique and emotional qualities of a product. DIFFERENCE in the midst of REGULAR & LUXURY GOODS Luxury has never been something easy to define, yet this mystery concept is something highly desired by one and all alike. We look at delving deeper into this mystery and aura of luxury goods by way of comparing them against regular goods as well as highlighting the characteristics of the luxury industry. Strategies for Luxury Marketing in India There are convention al foundations for ensuring success of a brand and they are listed below in brief 1.The brand must be expansive Which means it should be full of innovation opportunities for the marketer and in terms of satisfying the divergent needs of the luxury consumer 2. The brand must tell a bilgewater It is this story, of either heritage or performance or other aspects that goes on to build the aura of a brand over time. The story always accentuates the identity of the brand. 3. The brand must be relevant to the consumers needs Depending upon the mindset of the luxury class, it is imperative for a brand to satisfy those needs, whether they are for recognition or functional use etc.4. The brand must align with consumers values A brand that does not concur with the basic values of a consumers rules of order has a small chance of succeeding because luxury items are forms of expression or identification for a luxury consumer. This makes it difficult for the consumer to adopt the brand in such cases. 5. The brand must perform Irrespective of which category the brand belongs to, a performance assurance is a must for the brand if it wishes to be in the evoked set of luxury consumers, considering the price being paid for luxury. INDUSTRY OVERVIEW.In the past, brands like Liz Claiborne and Pierre Cardin tested Indian waters but made a hasty retreat following poor customer response. This led to a general perception that India is even so not ready for luxury brands. only when now that impression is changing. umteen leading global luxury brand marketers have started taking our market seriously. Luxury goods marketing is a different ball game as the type of customers involved fall in a different class altogether. These customers are influenced more by glamour and style and want to stand out in a crowd. They do not bat an eyelid whey they buy a Vuitton bag costing Rs 50,000 or a Mont Blanc diamond-encrusted pen for Rs 50 lakh, Ermenegildo Zegnas top-of the-line, custom-tailored suit costing Rs 6 lakh or a mid-range Louis Vuitton briefcase priced Rs 1. 27 lakh. As these figures suggest, luxury brands are prestige products characterised by high-involvement decision-making that is strongly related to the persons self-concept. Sensory gratification and social approval are the primary factors in selecting a prestige product.Cutting prices or giving discounts can be detrimental in case of luxury brands. A high price implies a higher level of quality and also suggests a certain degree of prestige. Similarly, distribution should be restricted. Status-sensitive consumers may reject a particular product if the feeling of exclusivity goes away. Managing luxury brands is as much an art as a science. The challenge is to create a demand for something which is not really needed. After all, it looks crazy to spend Rs 50,000 on a handbag or Rs1,27,000 on a briefcase. Creativity plays a key role in creating such a premium image. Many luxury brands achieve legitimacy and fas hion authority as a result of the creative talent of their design teams who respect the brand heritage and yet continuously reinvent it. MARKET surface AND INDUSTRY GROWTH RATE With the European and American markets r for each oneing a saturation point, leading players are now concentrating on the BRIC countries and the action is expected to shift to India, being the fastest growing luxury market, growing at 25%. , and is expected to maintain these rates for the next 10 years. Government apart from obligations has taken a neutral stance towards the luxury stalwarts, FDI and tariffs as only concern which will be strengths in coming future. The implementation of the Free Trade Area, which laid out a comprehensive program of officeal tariff reduction, will be continuously implemented in phases through the year 2010.Over the course of the next several years, the programs in tariff reductions w ill be made broader. Efforts to eliminate non-tariff barriers and develop common product certification standards were initiated. In addition, ASEAN also was able to formulate framework agreements for the intra-regional liberalization of trade in services. scotch Trends Despite the adverse economic trends in the last year, the luxury goods industry as a whole experienced relatively robust economic growth. Many countries have also seen the risk-w octeted capital adequacy ratios of their banking systems improve due to government-sponsored bank recapitalization programs, referd progress in financial restructuring, and improvements in financial risk management. general Indian economic trend is a silver lining for companies as India is increasingly becoming the hotbed for millionaires and billionaires the new found riches is growing and will continue to be so, hence economic trend which was a challenge will grow as a big advantage. Social / Cultural Trends. There have also been social an d cultural trends that have been evident over the last few years in the luxury goods industry. These include (a) The irreversible rise of gracious society (b) The rise of civil society and urbanisation blends perfectly with dreams that luxury brands sell (c) The increase in the roles of intellectuals and social awareness. (d) Indians are a peculiar breed, victims of centuries-old socio-economic oppression. Where each of us is pinned on the social matrix is revealed by our last name or even a stray twist in accent.Money or the display of it can rarely manage to unsettle the hierarchy. Awareness or rather subtle awareness is something which luxury marketers are happy about and aiming at. With more and more urbanisation and globalisation the need to be in parity with the world will fuel the demands for more upmarket and more luxurious lifestyle. proficient Trends It is a common knowledge that the luxury goods industry is still a relatively new industry in the country and is still in its archean stages of development.Technology being a important factor still comes as second at times in various luxury categories, though make no mistakes that that second is still way above what a mid level brand can aim at. India being hub of technological development still does not provide luxury brands enough lucrative options as tech advancement are not synchronised and homogeneous, hence it is a dark secernate but might be a very significant area in future. Legal Trends.Intellectual place (IP) and IP Rights (IPR) creation, commercialization, and protection have been a significant source of comparative advantage of enterprises and economies and a major driver of their competitive strategies. Indeed, countries all over the world are fully aware of the imperativeness need for a long-term policy commitment to collectively transform the luxury goods industry into one which is largely ground on knowledge, driven by innovation and sustained by life-long learning.Countries all ov er the world have pledged to work together to help accelerate the pace and scope of IP asset creation, commercialization and protection to improve the regional framework of policies and institutions relating to IP and IPRs, including the development and harmonization of enabling IPR registration systems to promote IP cooperation and dialogues within the region as well with the regions Dialogue Partners and organizations to strengthen IP-related human and institutional capabilities, including fostering greater public awareness of issues and implications, relating to IP and IPRs.INDIA and IPR are a big problem, just not having the stringent and encompassing laws is not the only issue, and problem also arises due to weak enforcement of laws. Cheap imitation and intellectual property infringement is a common occurrence in the nation. Luxury Goods Industry SWOT Analysis Strengths Has products that boast of a very powerful retail. This includes a reputation for value of money, convenience and a wide variety of products Has grown significantly over the years, and has experienced global expansion. Main competence lies on the use of information technology (IT) to fully support its international logistics system. Therefore, companies in this industry can see how their individual products perform within the United States for instance, or even at stores at a glance. Is able to deliver good customer care, as the limited amount of work would mean plenty of time to devote to customers. Products have instituteed a strong reputation within the market. Offers little deficits and overheads. Therefore the companies in this industry can offer good value to customers on a consistent basis. Weaknesses Is one of the worlds largest industries but has a weak control of its empire, despite its IT advantages. This could lead to a decrease in productivity in some areas where it has the least control. Since companies in this industry sell products across many sectors, they may lack the flex ibility that some of its more focused competitors possess. Operates globally, but its movement is located in only relatively few countries worldwide. Some luxury goods lack market presence or reputation The companys interchange flow is unreliable especially in the early stages of a new luxury product development. Over flooding doesnt leave a luxury brand a real luxury brand. OpportunitiesTaking over, merging, or forming strategic alliances with other luxury good companies while focusing on strong markets like Europe or the Greater China Region and India. Luxury good companies operate only on trade in a relatively small number of countries all over the world. Thus, this would open the opportunities for future businesses in expanding various consumer markets, such as those in China and India. The opening of new locations and branches offer luxury good companies the opportunities to exploit market development. This could lead to the diversification of the companys branches from large super centres to local-based sites.Opportunities exist for luxury good companies to continue with their current strategy of establishing large branches worldwide. The industry is continuously expanding, with plenty of future opportunities to exploit for success. AS FOR INDIA IT IS THE INDUSTRY OF FUTURE maybe 10 more years. Threats Being number one means that the luxury goods industry is the target of competition, the industry to beat, both locally and globally. Being a global retailer means that luxury goods companies might be exposed to political problems in the countries where the company has operations. The production costs of most luxury products have the tendency to fall because of lower manufacturing costs. Manufacturing costs fall because of outsourcing to affordable regions around the globe. This phenomenon could lead to competition in prices, which in turn would result in the deflation of prices in various ranges. Intense price competition must decidedly be considered a threat. Indian mentality of the masses. REPUTATION, if it goes down company goes down. Detailed Analysis of the Industry Environment The assessment of the industry attractiveness is performed using the doormans Five Forces Model.A. Threat of New Entrants New entrants in the luxury goods industry will have to deal with high costs of entry for their latest technologies. Most major competitors in this industry have yet to establish strong distribution channels. This will severely hamper their plans to retaliate with their technological developments as without distribution channels, their products would never be seriously considered in the market by customers. These companies must worry though about certain government laws in some countries that might weaken their competitive position (2002). B. Bargaining Power of Suppliers.Suppliers of luxury goods have relatively lower bargaining power because their products have yet to establish consistency in the market. This is in contrary to ord inary brands where these products have been able to secure the confidence of its customers worldwide. C. Bargaining Power of Buyers A majority of consumers in the luxury goods industry are professionals who rely on mobile and expensive gadgets and expect seamless services every time they use them. For instance, a customer phones in a service request from the New York airport while boarding a plane bound to Paris the same day.The technical people in New York will immediately work on the service ticket of the client. And when that client arrives in Paris, he / she would be able to call the New York service centre and pick up exactly where he / she left off (1999). The bargaining power of buyers in the luxury goods industry is relatively high because there are only few, large players in the industry. D. Threat of Substitutes There are very little threats that could emerge from possible substitutes. This is because product-for-product substitution could not possibly slip by especially with luxury goods.Other products cannot simply replace the ingenuity of the established luxury products in the market. Also, the millions of users of these luxury products surely would find it too uncomfortable using other products other than their luxury products CASE STUDY THE MURJANI GROUP OVERVIEW Murjani Group develops, launches, and builds various designer lifestyle brands. I’Ve Seen the Promise Land
In accordance with the tether linguistic processes and one letter by Martin Luther King junior , at that place are many ways one can comprehend what he intended to accomplish with each. This, of course, means besides the obvious understanding that can be absorbed through a quick read through. The one speech that resonates even in to solar days society and still relates to involvements, even extracurricular what King was speaking on, was his speech Ive Been to the Mountaintop or also known as I See the Promised Land. With any movement against damage, a best drawing card must be present.Through understanding of his speeches and similar past leaders such as Moses and Jesus, it is clear how Dr. King established himself as the leader of the obliging rights movement and his vision and strength led many to a better life filled with the freedoms that they had yearned for. The opening of this speech is inspirational yet it is also moderately unexpected when put in the context of his other more famous works. When asked by God what age he would standardized to live in, he describes whatsoever of the most famous and wondrous places of all time, such as Ancient Greece or the Renaissance. Then, with a powerful swoop in his voice, he says Strangely enough, I would turn to the Almighty, and say, If you allow me to live just a few years in the second half of the 20th century, I will be happy. immediately thats a strange statement to make, because the world is all messed up. The nation is sick. Trouble is in the land confusion all around. Thats a strange statement. But I know, somehow, that scarce when it is dark enough can you see the stars. Martin Luther King younger knew that the time had come to finally address the issues that had been conflicted within him as well as countless others. He states, But now, no longer can they just talk about it. It is no longer a choice between violence and nonviolence in this world its nonviolence or nonexistence. He continued his speech by delivering messages from Jesus and various biblical passages to show why it is so historic that they continued to be pushed forth and not remain idle. Even after their protest in Memphis they needed to keep marching forward, literally and figuratively. This speech was not only inspiring for the civil rights movements, but can also be used as an inspiration and a guideline to overcome any injustice that can be inflicted onto someone. Dr.King believed that when men and women had the mission of doing Gods will and standing up for what is right, that this would allow them to no longer fear death. Once you charter conquered those who had at one point unjustly conquered you, then you are free. In addition to all the things Dr. King believed were needed to reach the Promised Land, the most fundamental thing, though not directly stated by King, was the presence of an innate and inspirational leader who has a clear vision and the ability to express and correctly assert that vision onto those who want to quell injustice, along with the courage to fight against it himself. When you look at the difference between successful and also failed campaigns against injustice, the one thing that is always remembered is that in successful ones there was a leader who rallied his mountain. Moses was determined to lead the slaves out of Egypt and accomplished it by uniting them with his cause. Another example is Abraham capital of Nebraska when he organized those around him and passed the Emancipation Proclamation of 1863. King Jr. embodied everything that Moses and Abraham Lincoln did for their people, and then some.Without him, the civil rights movement very well could contrive died down and the world would not be where it is at today. With this in mind, there are 3 key moments in Dr. Kings life that do him into the visionary who took on all the arduous tasks that were placed before him. First is the time he spent in Birmingham Jail and the letter he wrote. huma n progressit comes through the tireless efforts of men willing to be coworkers with God, and without this hard work, time itself becomes an ally of the forces of social stagnation. This showed that he was willing to fight alongside his people and endure anything that they did, and that he would go to the greatest of lengths to make his point. The second and his most famous speech, I Have a Dream, delivered on August 28, 1963, not only sparked a fire under those who had already been involved, but additionally enlisted those who may not have had previously agreed with his beliefs or thought that sort was not possible. It also gained global media attention and exposed his brilliance, showing what he truly envisioned for the future of his country. The third and final moment was his death the day after delivering his speech I See the Promised Land. His martyrdom was a symbol to all that things needed to, and were going to, change. From that very speech given in Memphis, he preached Well, I dont know what will happen now. Weve got some difficult days ahead. But it really doesnt matter with me now, because Ive been to the mountaintop. And I dont mind. Like anybody, I would like to live a long life. Longevity has its place. But Im not concerned about that now. I just want to do Gods will. And Hes allowed me to go up to the mountain. And Ive looked over. And Ive seen the Promised Land. I may not get there with you. But I want you to know tonight, that we, as a people, will get to the promised land In his speech Ive Been to the Mountaintop, King delved into the current status of the civil rights movement and how he saw that the future was bright, as long as people continued to append in the face of adversity, and did not allow the opposition to deter them. He believed that they had come too far to let it slip away, and even without him as their leader he knows they can accomplish it.As with all other successful movements, a leader who is extremely persuasive, motivation al, and is willing to do anything for what he believes in is key. For Dr. King, there were three crucial moments in his life that shaped him to become such, and they are his prison time and letter from Birmingham Jail, his I Have a Dream speech, and his martyrdom. These not only made him the face and leader of the civil rights movement, but arguably the greatest and most influential leader in history. Aristotleââ¬â¢s Critique of Platoââ¬â¢s Theory of Limited Communism Essay
Platonic collectivism advocates for abolishment of private families ownership among the upper and the lower class in favor of communism. This is what Plato in the Republic referred to as the ideal city . From the writing of Aristotle in Politics, this idea of Plato has been the center of criticism. Most of the critics have claimed that the idea is a cause of confusion. Aristotle has aired his worries about the nature and completion of communism in the society. Aristotle has also argued in opposition to stipulation of communism in a perfect political society.According to Aristotle, in platonic communism there is no clear explanation on the way the lower class is meant to live. This is problematic especially given the fact that this is the class that constitutes the majority in the society. Aristotle like many other critics claims that plenty cannot be in a position to live devoid of private property and families . This argument is against that of Plato that most people are not able to live without private properties and families . This criticism would be untrue if it is possible for any person to exist without private properties and families. There is no evidence anywhere of people who exist communally. The criticism of Aristotle is right owing to the fact that the Republic does not completely or clearly address the outcome of the way the lower class is to survive. It does not address particularly the issue of whether the lower class is to exist communally or not . This is the reason why Aristotle is justified to claim that the question is not completely resolved. Many of the current scholars agree with the fact that the communism in the republic targets the rulers, and that the lower class exists in a way that does not need to be referred to as communistic. In the Republic, it is clear that a communism of children and women will only occur amongst the rulers . The argument of Aristotle is fair and clear that Plato does not take a clear position in his limite d communism ideology . This reveals the fact that Aristotles criticism of Platos supposition of limited communism as put forth in the Republic is justified and thus fair. A Sacred Product
In our current society, material things really do matter, as these things make our lives oftentimes easier and comfortable. We need to take hold certain types of gadgets such as mobile phones, laptops, computers, PDAs or the likes in order to function well and communicate with the people around us. We as well need to have cars in order to get to work or school. Without these things, our lives would be much harder and complicated.Technological advancements have changed the way we live and also the society alimentation in it. In addition, with all the advertisement and marketing strategies employed by companies, most people now immensely feel the need for these material things that they could no longer ignore them. However, we may be surrounded with material things that we use as tools for our convenience, merely I do believe that some of these things atomic number 18 non dear a tool but a part of us.Everyday, I have a routine of waking up in the morning hence staring at the c eiling for a couple of minutes before finally getting up. That short span of time is my blink of an eye to reflect almost the things that happened the day before. I think of the specific things that happened in terms of the words and the actions that a friend, an acquaintance, or a stranger had done to other people or to me.After a few minutes of reflection, I get out of the bed and I make a cup of coffee. I then sit on a comfortable chair and gaze on the view outside the window. I then try to appreciate what I see and enjoy the moment of peace and tranquility of the small garden that we have. I observe the grass that rises from the rich soil and examine the small colorful flowers that have bloomed. While I squeeze a sip of my favorite Starbucks Coffee, I think of the activities that I want and need to do, such as deadlines, office work, catching up with old friends, and seeing my family. I also think of the chores that need to be finished for the day. I plan and organize early i n the morning, as it is the time when I substructure focus more as my mind is clear. If I am not organizing my plan for the day, I would be writing the things that I have in my mind. The lift of coffee adds to the aura of the mornings. It somehow sets the humour and awakens my sense due to its strong and tangy flavor. Home-made Starbucks Coffee has become one of my strongest weapons in the morning, as it brings life to my mind.My mornings would not be complete without a cup of coffee it lightens my mood and takes away the sluggishness of mornings. Coffee has been a part of my daily routine that I adhesion it as a sacred product that I cannot do without. It is like a habit (or maybe an addiction) that I cannot give up because it livens up mood to start my day right.Starbucks Coffee houses atomic number 18 also a venue for many of my friends to mediocre relax and unwind due its peaceful and calming ambience. In that quiet little spot, we talk about our concerns such as our jobs o r the current situation of our country. We also talk about entertainment and music which I and my friends enjoy. But how come coffee has become one of the most popular drinks which an individual or a group of people enjoy? I believe that advertisements and media, which are one of the most influential aspects of society, have made a simple coffee into a social construct. The endless TV commercials and the seemingly ubiquitous ads are one of the many reasons that caused coffee to become a thriving industry that is well-known to different people not only in the United States but also around the world.Another good aspect of coffee shop advertisements that I believe have captured the attention of many is the theme of having a place to just stop and relax after many hours of work. Coffee shops provide the space for friends and family to just be together, talk about anything, reminisce the old times, and reflect on their past experiences together. The inviting advertisements entice everyone to try coffee, and before anyone knew it, coffee has already become a become part of his or her everyday life.In conclusion, most people have their own sacred products that they use or need to have in order to have their lives complete. Although material things are truly needed by everyone, it moldiness be taken in mind that advertisers and media are only promoting products and it is their job to do so. Still, there are things that we really need and there are things that we do not really need. It is our discretion if we need a product and not the advertisements that entice us to buy their products. We must be wise consumers and not just believe in the advertisements of companies who just want to increase their profit.

It was 200 A.M. The Sorcerer had been working all night.I think weve found our pilot, she said.6Whos Flying This Life?At the last minute Mary Jean changed her mind about sending Tucker Case to her cabin in the mountains. Put him in a motel room outside of town and dont let him out until I say so.In two weeks Tucker had seen only the nurse who came in to change his bandages and the guard. Actually, the guard was a tackle, second-string defense from SMU, six-foot-six, two hundred and seventy pounds of earnest Christian navet named inhuman Lemon.Tucker was lying on the bed watching tv set. insensate sat hunched over the wood-grain genus Formica table reading Scripture.Tucker said, tatty, why dont you go get us a six-pack and a pizza pie? inhuman didnt look up. Tuck could see the shine of his s calp through his crew cut. A thick Texas drawl No, sir. I dont drink and Mrs. Jean said that you wasnt to have no alcohol. Its not Mrs. Jean, you doofus. Its Mrs. Dobbins. aft(prenominal) two weeks, frigid was beginning to get on Tucks nerves.Just the same, Dusty said. I can call for a pizza for you, but no beer.Tuck detected a blush though the crew cut. Dusty?Yes sir. The tackle looked up from his Bible, waited.Get a real name.Yes, sir, Dusty said, a giant grin bisecting his moon face, Tuck.Tucker wanted to leap off the bed and cuff Dusty with his Bible, but he was a long way from being able to leap anywhere. Instead, he looked at the ceiling for a second (it was highway safety orange, like the walls, the doors, the tile in the bathroom), then proppedhimself up on one elbow and considered Dustys Bible. The red type. Thatthe hot parts? The words of Jesus, Dusty said, not looking up.Really?Dusty nodded, looked up. Would you like me to read to you? When my grandma was in the hospital, she liked me to read Scriptures to her.Tucker fell stomach with an aggravate sigh. He didnt understand religion. It was like heroin or golf He knew a lot of plenty did it, but he didnt un-derstand why. His father watched sports every Sunday, and his mother had worked in real estate. He grew up thinking that church was something that simply interfered with games and weekend open houses. His first ex-posure to religion, other than the skin mag layouts of the women who had brought down television evangelists, had been his job with Mary Jean. For her it just seemed like good business. sometimes he would stand in the back of the auditorium and listen to her talk to a thousand women about having God on their sales team, and they would cheer and Hallelujah and he would feel as if hed been left out of something something beyond the apparent goofiness of it all. Maybe Dusty had something on him overly a hundred pounds.Dusty, why dont you go out tonight? You havent been out in two weeks . I have to be here, but you you must have a whole line of babes crying to get you back, huh? Big football player like you, huh?Dusty blushed again, going deep red from the collar of his perform jersey to the top of his head. He folded his hands and looked at them in his lap. Well, Im sorta waitin for the right girl to come along. A lot of the girls that go after us football players, you know, theyre kinda loose.Tuck raised an eyebrow. And?Dusty squirmed, his chair creaked under the strain. Well, you know, its kindaAnd suddenly, amid the stammering, Tucker got it. The kid was a virgin. He raised his hand to quiet the boy. never mind, Dusty. The big tackle s bumped in his chair, exhausted and embarrassed.Tuck considered it. He, who understood so much the importance of a healthy sex life, who knew what women needed and how to give it to them, might never be able to do it again, and Dusty Lemon, who probably could produce a woody that women could chin themselves on, wasnt using it at all. He pondered it. He worked it overfrom several angles and came very close to having a religious experience, for who but a vicious and vengeful God would allow such injustice in the world? He thought about it. misfortunate Tucker. Poor Dusty. Poor, poor Tucker. He felt a lump forming in his throat. He wanted to say something that would make the kid feel better. How old are you, Dusty?Ill be twenty-two next March, sir?Well, thats not so bad. I mean, you might be a late bloomer, you know. Or gay maybe, Tuck said cheerfully.Dusty started to contract into the fetal position. Sir, Id rather not talk about it, if you dont mind, he whimpered. t make headwayher was a intercept on the door and he uncurled, alert and ready to move. He looked to Tucker for instructions.Well, answer it.Dusty lumbered to the door and pulled it open a crack. Yes?Im here to see Tucker Case. Its okay, I work for Mary Jean. Tuck accepted Jake Skyes voice.Just a second. Dusty turned and looked to Tucker, confus ed.Who knows were here, Dusty?Just us and Mrs. Jean. Then why dont you let him in?Yes, sir. He opened the door and Jake Skye strode through carrying a grocery bag and a pizza box.Greetings. He threw the pizza on the bed. Pepperoni and mushroom. He glanced at Dusty and paused, taking a moment to look the tackle up and down. Howd you get this job? Eat your family? No, sir, Dusty said.Jake patted the tackles mammoth shoulder. Good to be careful, I guess. Momma always said, Beware of flecks bearing gifts. Who are you? Jake Skye, Tuck said, meet Dusty Lemon. Dusty, Jake Skye, Mary Jeans kibibyte mechanic. Be nice to Dusty, Jake, Hes a virgin.Dusty shot a vicious glare at Tuck and extended a boxing glove size mitt. Jake shook his hand. Virgin, huh?Jake dropped his hand. Not including farm animals, though, right?Dusty winced and moved to close the door. You-all cant stay long. Mr. Case isnt supposed to see no one.Jake put the grocery bag down on the table, pulled out a fourinch-thick bundl e of mail, and tossed it on the bed next to Tucker. Yourfan mail.Tucker picked it up. Its all been opened.I was bored, Jake said, opening the pizza box and extracting a slice. A lot of death threats, a few marriage proposals, a couple really inte respiteing ones had both. Oh, and an airline ticket to someplace Ive never heard of with a check for expenses. From Mary Jean?Nope. Some missionary compensate in the Pacific. He wants you to fly for him. Medical supplies or something. Came FedEx yesterday. Almost took the job myself, seeing as I still have my pilots license and you dont, but then, I can get a job here.Tucker shuffled through the galvanic pile of mail until he found the check and the airline ticket. He unfolded the attached letter.Jake held the pizza box out to the bodyguard. Dopey, you want some pizza?Dusty, Dusty corrected.Whatever. To Tuck He wants you to leave ASAP.He cant go anywhere, said Dusty.Jake retracted the box. I can see that, Dingy. Hes still wired for sound. Jake gestured toward the catheter that snaked out of Tuckers pajama bottoms. How long before you can travel?Tucker was studying the letter. It certainly seemed legitimate. The doctor was on a remote island north of unused Guinea, and he needed someone to fly jet loads of medical supplies to the natives. He specifically mentioned that he was not concerned about Tuckers lack of a pilots license. The need was dire and the need was for an experienced jet pilot who could fly a Lear 45.Well, Jake said, when can you roll?Doctor says not for a week or so, Tucker said. I dont get it. This goofball is offering more money than I make for Mary Jean. Why me?Jake pulled a Lone superstar from the grocery bag and twisted off the cap. Tuck zeroed in on the beer. Dusty snatched it out of Jakes hand. The question is, Jake said, glaring at Dusty, what the fuck is a missionary doctor in Bongo Bongo land doing with a Lear 45?Gods work? Dusty said innocently.Jake snatched back his beer. Oh blow me, Huey .Dusty, Dusty corrected.Tucker said, Im not sure this is a good idea. Maybe I should stay here and see how things pan out with the FAA. This guy wants me right away. I need more time.Like more time will make a difference. Damn, Tucker, you dont have to sink eyeball deep in shit to know its a good idea to pull yourself out. Sometimes you have to make a decision.Tucker looked at the letter again. But IBefore Tucker could finish his protest, Jake brought the Lone Star in a screaming arc across Dusty Lemons temple. The bodyguard fell like a dead tree and did a dead-cat bounce on the orange carpet.Jesus Tucker said. What the fuck was that?A decision, Jake said. He looked up from the fallen tackle and took a pull on the foaming Lone Star. Sometimes this high-tech world calls for low-tech solutions. Lets go.7Travel TipsI cant believe you hit him, Tucker said. He was in the passenger seat of Jake Skyes camouflaged Land Rover. It was much more car than was re-quired for the Houston expresswa y, but Jake was into equipment overkill. Everything he owned was Kevlar, GorTex, Polarfleece, titanium alloy, graphite-polymer composite, or of expedition quality. He liked machines, understood how they worked, and could fix them if they didnt. Sometimes he spoke in an incomprehensible alphabet soup of SRAM, DRAM, FOR-TRAN, LORAN, SIMMS, SAMS, and ROM. Tuck, on the other hand, knew most of the words to Mommas, Dont Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys and could counterbalanceore burned toast to new by scraping off the black stuff.Of the two, Jake was the cool one. Tucker had always found being cool a little elusive. As Jake put it, Youve got the look, but you cant walk the walk or talk the talk. Tucker, you are a hopeless geek trapped in a cool guys body, but out of the goodness of my heart, I will take you on as my student. Theyd been friends for four years. Jake had taught Tuck to fly.Hell be fine. Hes a jock, Jake shouted over the buffeting wind. He hadnt bought a top for the L and Rover, opting kind of for the Outback package with the patented rhinoceros poking platform. He was just a kid. He was reading the Bible. He would have ripped my arms off if Id let him.Tuck nodded. That was probably true. Where are we going? The airport. Everything you need is in that pack in the back.Tucker looked into the back of the Rover. There was a large backpack. Why?Because if I dont get you out of the country right now, youre going to jail.Mary Jean said she had that handled. Said her lawyers were on it.Right, and I go around smacking kids with beer bottles for recreation. The hooker filed a civil suit this morning. Twenty million. Mary Jean has to throw you to the wolves to save her own ass. She has to let the appeal prove that you fucked up all on your own. I grabbed your passport and some clothes when I got your mail.Jake, I cant just take off like this. Im supposed to see a doctor tomorrow. For what?Tuck pointed to the lump of bandages in his lap. What do you think? He s supposed to take this damn tube out of me.Well do it in the bathroom at the airport. Theres some antibiotics in the first-aid kit in the pack. I confirmed you for a line of achievement to Honolulu that leaves in an hour. From there you go to Guam, then to someplace called Truk. Thats where this doctor is supposed to meet you. Ive got it all written down. There was an e-mail address at the bottom of the letter. I sent him a communicate to expect you tomorrow. But my car, my apartment, my stuff.Your apartment is a pit and I put your stuff worth retentiveness in a ministorage. Ive got the pink slip for your Camaro. Sign it over to me. Ill sell it and send you the money. You were pretty bonk sure Id want to do this. What choice do you have?Jake parked the Land Rover in short-term parking, shouldered the pack, and led Tucker into the international terminal. They checked the pack and found a rest room near Tuckers departure gate.I can do this myself, Tucker said.Jake Skye was peering o ver the door into the base where Tucker was preparing to remove his bandages and, finally, the catheter. A line of businessmen washed their hands at a line of lavatories enchantment trying not to notice what was going on behind them in the stall.Just yank it, Jake Skye said.Give me a minute. I think they tied a knot inside it.Dont be a wuss, Tucker. Yank it.The businessmen at the sinks exchanged raised eyebrows and one by one broke for the rest room door.Jake said, Im going to give you to five, then Im coming over the stall and yanking it for you. One, twoA rodeo rodeo rider at the urinals hitched up his Wranglers, pulled his hat down, and made a bowlegged beeline for the door to get on a plane to someplace where this sort of thing didnt happen.FiveSecurity guards rushed through the terminal toward the screaming. psyche was being murdered in the mens room and they were responsible. They burst into the rest room with guns drawn. Jake Skye was coiling up some tubing by the sinks. There was whimpering coming from one of the stalls. Everythings fine, officers, Jake said. My friends a little upset. He just found out that his mother died.My mothers not dead Tucker said from the stall.Hes in denial, Jake whispered to the guards. Here, you better takes this. He handed the tubing to one of the guards. We dont want him hanging himself in grief.Ten minutes later, after condolences from the security staff, they sat in the departure lounge drinking gin and tonics, waiting for Tucks boarding call. virtually them, a score of men and women in suits fired out phone calls on cell phones while twenty more performed an impromptu dog pile at the bar, trying to occupy the minuscule take area. Jake Skye was cataloging the contents of the pack hed given to Tuck. Tucker wasnt listening. He was overwhelmed with the speed with which his life had gone to shit, and he was desperately trying to sort it out. Jakes voice was lost like kazoo sounds in a wind tunnel.Jake droned, The sto ve will run on anything diesel, jet fuel, gasoline, even vodka. Theres a mask, fins, and snorkel, and a couple of waterproof flashlights. The job with Mary Jean had been perfect. A different city every few days, nice hotels, an expense account, and literally thousands of earnest Mary Jean ladies to indulge him. And they did, one or two at each convention. Inspired by Mary Jeans speeches on self-determination, motivation, and how they too could be a winner, they sought Tucker out to have their one adventurous affair with a jet pilot. And because no matter how many times it happened, he was always somewhat surprised by their advances, Tucker played a part.He behaved like a man torn from the cover of some steamy romance novel the charming rogue, the passionate pirate who would, come morning, take his ship to sea for God, Queen, and Country. Of course, usually, sometime before morning, the women would realize that under the smooth, gin-painted exterior was a guy who sniffed his shorts to check their wearability. But for a moment, for them and for him, he had been cool. Sleazy, but cool. When the sleaze got to him, he needed only to suck a few hits of oxygen from the cabin cylinder to chase the hangover, then pull the pink jet into the sky to convince himself he was a professional, competent and in control. At altitude he turned it all over to the autopilot. But now he couldnt seduce anyone or allow himself to be seduced, and he wasnt sure he could fly. The crash had juiced him of his confidence. It wasnt the impact or even the injuries. It was that last moment, when the guy, or the angel, or whatever it was appeared in the copilots seat. You ever think about God? Tucker asked Jake.Jake Skyes face went dead with incomprehension. Youre going to need to know about this stuff if you get into trouble. Kinda like checking the fuel gauges if you know what I mean.Tucker winced. Look, I heard every word you said. This seemed important all of a sudden, you know?Well, in that c ase, Tuck, yes, I do think about God sometimes. When Im with a really hot babe, and were going at it like sweaty monkeys, I think about it then. I think about a big old pissed-off Sistine Chapel finger-pointin motherfucker. And you know what? It works. You dont come when youre thinking about shit like that. You should try it sometime. Oh, sorry.Never mind, Tucker said. You cant let that kid with the Bible get to you. Hes too young to have given up on religiondoesnt have enough sin under his belt. Guys like us, best bet is that its all damn and we go directly to worm food. Try not to think about it.Right, Tucker said, totally unsatisfied. If you had a question about any piece of gadgetry on the planet, Jake Skye was your man. But spiritually, he was a hamster. Which, actually, was one of the things Tucker used to like about him. He tried not to think about it and changed the subject. So what do I need to know about flying a Lear 45?Jake seemed relieved to be back into the realm of tec hnology. I havent seen one yet, but they say it flies just like Mary Jeans old Lear 25, only faster and a longer range. Better avionics. Read the manuals when you get there. What about soaring equipment? Tuckers navigation was weak. Since hed gotten his jet license, hed depended completely on automatic systems.Youll be fine. You dont buy a four-million-dollar plane and cheap out on the navigation and radios. This doctors got an e-mail address, which means hes got a computer. Youll be able to access charts and weather, and file pip plans with that. Check the facilities at your destinations, so youll know what to expect. Some of these Third World airstrips just have a native with a candle for night landings. And check your fuel availability. Theyll sell you sewer water instead of jet fuel if you dont check. You ever deal with Third World airport cops?Tucker shrugged. Jake knew damn well he hadnt. Hed gotten his hours flying copilot in the Mary Jean jet, and theyd never taken that out side of the Continental United States except for one trip to Hawaii.Well, Jake continued, the catchword is bribe, bribe, and bribe. Offer the highest amount you can at the worst level of authority. Always have a thick roll of American dollars with you, and dont bring it to the table if youre not willing to lose it. Keep something stashed in your shoe if they tap you out.You think this doctor is going to have me hauling drugs?Good chance of it, dont you think? Besides, it doesnt matter. These people are brutal. Half the time the government guys have the same last name, so if you move up the ladder, youre just talking to the uncle of the last one that hit you. He has to charge you more out of pride.Tucker cradled his head in his hands and stared into his gin and tonic. Im fucked.Jake patted him on the arm, then drew back at the intimacy of the act. Theyre calling your flight. Youll be fine. They rose and Jake threw some gold on the table. At the gate Tucker turned to his friend. Man, I dont know what to say.Jake extended his hand. No sweat, man. Youd have done it for me.I really hate flying in the back. Check on that kid from the motel, okay.Im on it. Look, everything you need is in the pack. Dont leave it behind.Right, Tucker said. Well He turned and walked down the ramp to the plane.Jake Skye watched him go, then turned, walked to a pay phone, dialed some numbers, and waited. Yeah, its Jake. Hes on his way. Yeah, gone for good. When can I pick up my check?
